Hear it From Them

When I was interviewing for faculty jobs, the CRC was one of the things that UChicago could offer that other places did not have worked out as well. None of our work could be done without a CRC. We need the nutrition component and we need the technical expertise of the nursing staff.

The ITM’s Clinical Research Center (CRC) has provided investigators with support for complex clinical and translational science projects for more than 56 years, offering skilled research nurses and staff, lab assistance for handling biological samples and assay performance, and exclusive space to perform their studies.

Investigators use the CRC for both government, nonprofit, and industry-sponsored studies, and the CRC is the only location on campus to offer almost two dozen specialized research services in addition to regular, time-sensitive data collection. CRC rates are competitive, with some saving investigators thousands of dollars compared with other rates on campus and in Chicago.

Its services include:

  • Protocol Consultation Services
  • Metabolic Kitchen Services
  • Indirect Calorimetry
  • Core Laboratory Analysis Services
  • Clamp procedure
  • Mixed Meal Tolerance
  • Continuous Glucose Monitoring
  • Infusions
  • DEXA Scanner
  • Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing
  • Inpatient and Outpatient Capacities (12 rooms)
  • And more

Most CRC nurses and staff have more than a decade of research experience. The team is drop-in friendly, so please feel free to stop by the fifth floor of UChicago’s Bernard Mitchell Hospital in the W Corridor to visit the space and talk with the staff.

Helpful Tip:

Consult with an ITM expert before submitting your proposal. They’re here to offer free feedback on things like biostatistics and ethics. Experts in those areas will be reviewing your applications, so take advantage of the resources to put your best foot forward.
