UChicago Medicine and Google are joining forces to analyze patient records in order to predict medical events. Together, they will take the information found in electronic health records, look for patterns, and use those patterns to identify at-risk patients and forecast their health.
“There’s so much health care data, especially with electronic health records being adopted over the last 10 years. The potential for using that data for predictions, people haven’t really figured out how to harness it,” said Katherine Chou, project leader at Google Research.
The ITM’s associate director, Sam Volchenboum, MD, PhD, MS, also weighed in, saying that this partnership will expand on similar work UChicago is already undertaking.
