Periods can suck.

Uterus

Here’s your survival guide

Nearly 85% of women experience period pain at some point in their lives. That’s A LOT! What’s scarier? Women have been menstruating for millions of years, but we still don’t know the risk factors.

Not feeling spooked yet? Here are some more scary stats:

1 in 10 women report their pain is as bad as or worse than a heart attack.

Frank Tu, director of gynecological pain at NorthShore University HealthSystem, tells Quartz some physicians are taught that ibuprofen “should be good enough.” Clearly, this is not an adequate response to such severe pain. How severe? John Guillebaud, professor of reproductive health at University College London, tells Quartz that patients have described the cramping pain as “almost as bad as having a heart attack.”

Nine Days.

That’s the average days of lost productivity per year for a woman with severe period pain.

Despite all that, there’s a serious gap. Women’s health surrounding period pain is under-funded and under-researched.

If 1 in 10 women experienced pain as bad as a heart attack whenever they got their period, wouldn’t we want to know why?

Scented Feminine Hygiene Products: Yay or Nay?

You know them, but do you need or should you be using them? No! Just because there is stigma about normal vaginal odors as offensive does not make it ok to pressure women to use products that could cause yeast infections, hormone imbalances, endocrine disruptions, and bacterial vaginosis. Especially since some of these issues come with foul odors that are CAUSED by the scented products.
