The ITM is thrilled to welcome Kathleen Ferraro to its team as a science communications specialist, where she’ll contribute to multimedia storytelling and marketing across its communications platforms.
“Kathleen is a talented reporter with research and global health experience,” said Sara Serritella, ITM Communications Director. “Her love of science and understanding of how it can directly impact the well-being of communities makes her a wonderful addition to the team.”
Ferraro is a recent graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing Communications, where she covered various science beats as a freelancer and student. Prior to receiving her graduate degree in journalism, she earned degrees in cultural anthropology, international studies and global health from Northwestern University. She has conducted anthropological research on public health initiatives and impacts both locally and internationally, including grant-funded research on cultural competency strategies in indigenous public health interventions in Peru. Ferraro was also a student staff member at the global headquarters of GlobeMed, a nonprofit organization partnering students with international grassroots health organizations in a movement to achieve global health equity. Most recently, Ferraro has managed social media for various nonprofits and public figures.
“As a science journalist and new ITM team member, I’m excited to access and share stories about research that directly translate into real-world impacts,” Ferraro said.
