Leaders from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the organization that fuels the ITM, will be featured on CBS’s 60 Minutes on March 30 for their work on treating sickle cell disease.
Sickle cell disease is a group of conditions that cause your blood cells to develop into abnormal shapes. The show will feature NIH Director Francis Collins, MD, PhD, and NIH senior investigator John Tisdale, MD, for their work targeting this rare disease using gene therapy, or a treatment that adds certain genes to a patient’s body to help fight a disease.
